John Howell, a former New Zealand Cricket national coaching director, has died in Tauranga after a short illness, aged 67.
As a medium pace bowler Howell played for Central Districts from 1966 to 1973.
He worked for New Zealand Cricket for 21 years until 2003.
John Howell is survived by his wife Merline and sons Llorne and Glynn who also played first class cricket. Llorne Howell played 12 one-day internationals for New Zealand in 1998.
