Landowner under pressure to serve trespass notices

9:08 am on 18 November 2010

The owner of land occupied by Ngati Kahu protestors in the Far North is under pressure from neighbours to call the police and evict them.

Todd Male, whose family owns a hectare of land at Taipa Point, has been fielding calls from residents who want the protestors gone. But he says he is reluctant to take hasty action.

Mr Male says the group occupied the land last summer, but left after he listened to their grievances and discussed the idea of selling the land to the iwi.

He says he took the land off the market as a goodwill gesture, but is still willing to sell it to Ngati Kahu or the Crown.

Mr Male says this time the occupation has hurt businesses there and he understands why people are upset.
