A Christchurch shearer has been found guilty of defrauding the Accident Compensation Corporation and ordered to repay more than $37,000.
Grant Turner, 56, pleaded guilty in the Christchurch District Court on Wedbnesday to nine charges of dishonestly using a document.
He was sentenced to 300 hours community service.
The ACC says Turner submitted nine medical certificates stating he was unfit to work while he worked for several shearing gangs.
He also told the agency he was visiting friends in Alexandra when he was actually in Australia.
Judge Raoul Neave told Turner he had escaped prison only because he had returned from Australia and pleaded guilty.
