No big weekend party at North Shore, say police

Police say a large party planned for Auckland's North Shore on Saturday failed to eventuate.

Officers were on watch following two out-of-control parties at beaches over the previous two weekends.

Plans for a gathering at Castor Bay were being made on social networking sites during the week, with this weekend cited as a possible date.

About 4000 people suggested they would attend the event.

But Alex Revell, who lives at Castor Bay, says the greatest number of young people out on the reserve at any one time on Saturday night was 20.

Police say they were not alerted to any signs of activity.
