Police have arrested 13 people after a nationwide operation targeting drug and property crimes.

Operation Nest ended on Wednesday morning after running for more than a year. The operation was primarily based in Waitaki and involved police going under cover in Oamaru.

Police said some of the arrests were in Auckland and Whakatane, but the majority were in Oamaru.

Some of those arrested will appear in Oamaru District Court on Wednesday and at least four people will appear on Thursday.

Charges are still being finalised, but police expect a significant number of charges will relate to the dealing of class B controlled drugs and the prescription medicines morphine, ritalin and methadone.

More than 60 officers were involved in the operation.
