Taipa landowner holding back on trespass notices

11:52 am on 26 November 2010

The Auckland owner of land in the Far North, occupied by a Ngati Kahu group, is holding off on trespass action, in the hope of a sale.

Todd Male says he is under heavy pressure from his Taipa neighbours to evict the group.

But he says his family is keen to sell its land and there appears to be a chance it could be included in Ngati Kahu's land claim settlement.

Mr Male says until that is clarified, he is unwilling to take trespass action, but has told the protestors he cannot hold off much longer.

He says he was met by a large group of residents upset about the occupation, when he arrived at Taipa.

Mr Male says Ngati Kahu's mandated leaders need to get around the table with Government officials and discuss what can be done to resolve the impasse.
