Sixty properties may have to be demolished under the Transport Agency's proposed routes for a multi-million dollar, four-lane road north of Wellington.
Two options for the MacKays to Peka Peka Expressway have been released and consultation with affected homeowners starts on Sunday.
The road will divert off State Highway 1 at MacKay, cutting through Raumati, Paraparaumu and Waikanae, before linking up with the state highway again.
28 properties in Raumati will have to go.
At Waikanae, the Transport Agency must decide between knocking down 15 properties and have the expressway intrude onto Waahi Tapu sacred grounds, or bulldoze 32 properties and relocate one historic home.
The proposed expressway is part of the Government's $2.4 billion overhaul of State Highway 1 north of Wellington.
