Labour MP increases Mana by-election majority

The new Labour MP for Mana, Kris Faafoi, has increased his majority in the seat in the final official count.

Mr Faafoi's election night majority of 1080 has risen to 1406 following the counting of special votes.

The Electoral Commission has released the final vote and expects to return the final writ next Tuesday, which means Mr Faafoi could be sworn in as an MP as early as Wednesday.

In the final count, he received 10,980 votes. His closest challenger, National list MP Hekia Parata, got 9,574.
