A $1.5 million dental clinic uniquely adapted for disabled patients has opened in Christchurch.
The Hillmorton Clinic is the largest of 12 facilities in a $13 million upgrade of dental services throughout Canterbury.
Project manager Jason Hopper says the clinic has a specially designed chair that enables dentists to treat people seated in wheelchairs and is only one of its kind in New Zealand.
Mr Hopper says the clinic also caters for young people, the elderly and people struggling to pay for dental care.
The last of the clinics is expected to be open by mid-2011.
