St John Ambulance charges raised for services

12:21 pm on 2 December 2010

The St John Ambulance service has increased its charges to patients.

Charges vary throughout the country, and are now between $61 - $74.

A part-charge was previously $45 - $67.50.

The charge to patients applies to ambulance attendance and transport for medical emergencies, as well as accident-related injuries that are older than 24 hours.

Chief executive Jaimes Wood says the increase is the first rise in part charges in more than 10 years.

He says more than 80% of people pay the charge and he believes people will continue to pay.

Calls to accident related injuries within 24 hours are generally covered by ACC.
