$950,000 budgetted to refurbish meeting room

An Auckland Council committee is being asked to approve a budget of $950,000 to refurbish part of the Town Hall for a new meeting room.

A strategy & finance committee meeting next Tuesday will be asked to approve funding for the alterations because the present council chamber is too small to fit councillors, the public and the media.

Most of the money will pay for cabling, sound equipment and screens, to enable the new area to be converted into an effective meeting room.

But committee chair Penny Webster says she wants a report on the costs, before she signs a budget.
