Scientists analysing suspected drink spiking substance

11:55 am on 6 December 2010

Police investigating a suspected multiple drink-spiking in Napier have sent a sample of a substance that may have been used to ESR scientists in Wellington to analyse.

Detective Sergeant Brian Schaab says it could be "any sort of concoction" and it may take several days before they find out what substance was used in the incident.

Police four people collapsed in the early hours of Sunday morning while drinking at the Cri Bar in the central city and suspect their drinks were spiked late on Saturday night or in the early hours of Sunday morning.

All were taken to hospital and have since been discharged.

There are reports the four experienced convulsions and vomiting.

Police would like to speak to anybody who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Cri Bar at the weekend or who had similiar experiences in any other Napier bar.
