The Maori King, Tuheitia, has dismissed the chairperson of the Waikato-Tainui Parliament, Te Kauhanganui, to end a dispute between her and the iwi executive board, Te Ara Taura.
The recently appointed chair, Tania Martin, has been critical of the executive's financial performance.
King Tuheitia says Ms Martin has failed to keep a commitment that she would work with the people inside Te Kauhangui to ensure that Waikato-Tainui is no longer brought into disrepute by internal conflict between it and the executive.
The King says he has lost confidence in Ms Martin.
The position will be filled temporarily by the King's representative to the Parliament, Greg Miller.
Mr Miller told Waatea News Tania Martin's financial report to Te Ara Taura was factually inaccurate, but she had failed to give an apology.
He says King Tuheitia has asked retired Maori Land Court judge Heta Hingston and professional director Craig Ellison to conduct an independent review of Tainui's constitution and governance processes, and audit the financial performance of both the executive and the parliament.
