Queen to present NZ soldier with military honour

11:15 pm on 7 December 2010

Britain's second highest military honour will be awarded on Tuesday to a New Zealander for his bravery in Afghanistan's Helmand province earlier this year.

Rifleman James McKie saved three lives by picking up a Afghan grenade that had bounced off his commanding officer, and was about to explode. It detonated as he threw it away.

The Queen will present James McKie with the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross.

It is second only to the Victoria Cross.
