5:45 pm on 12 December 2010

Crimestoppers says it is experiencing a steady increase in calls which lead to police investigations.

The anonymous hotline has been running for just over a year. It received 272 actionable calls last month - its highest number yet.

It says there has been a steady increase since August.

Crimestoppers says the increase in the number of calls which offer sufficient information to be passed to the police for investigation is extremely encouraging.

It says that shows callers are thinking more carefully about the information they are providing.
