Some hospital staff don't care - DHB chairman

The man in charge of hospital services in west and north Auckland says he has been tackling ineffective managers and staff who do not care about patients.

Waitemata District Health Board faced criticism this winter when patients at North Shore Hospital emergency department were still being treated on beds in corridors, a year after a highly critical report by the Health and Disability Commissioner.

DHB chairman Lester Levy told Nine to Noon he has had to deal with a lack of empathy, respect and kindness among some staff and he has removed some managers.

Dr Levy has been appointed to also chair the Auckland DHB and increase collaboration between the boards and says it is a political issue whether that leads to a merger.
