Grandmother jailed 6 years for drug possession

A grandmother who was carrying the largest amount of methamphetamine found on a domestic passenger at Wellington Airport has been jailed.

Susan Horrobin, 54, wept in the dock at the Wellington High Court on Tuesday when sentenced to six years and six months' jail.

As well as possession of methamphetamine for supply, she also earlier pleaded guilty to possession of LSD for supply, supply of methamphetamine and possession of ecstasy for supply.

Horrobin's lawyer sought a reduction in the starting point of eight years' jail to reflect his client's early guilty plea.

Justice Joseph Williams said Horrobin had an extensive history of drug use and abuse.

The judge ordered forfeiture of the drug paraphernalia and $9700 in cash found during a search of Horrobin's home.
