A man has admitted to shooting two police officers and killing a police dog.

Christopher Graeme Smith pleaded guilty in the High Court in Christchurch on Thursday to wounding with intent and killing a police dog, along with firearms and cultivation of cannabis charges.

However, he entered no plea to two charges of attempted murder and will face trial next year.

Christopher Smith shot and seriously injured senior constable Bruce Lamb and constable Mitch Alatalo and killed police dog Gage when officers attempted to search his house for cannabis on 13 July.

He was later arrested along with his brother, Steven Smith.
