Hamilton City Council has appointed a new chief executive.
Barry Harris replaces Michael Redman who recently took up a senior position with the new Auckland Council.
Mr Harris is a former chief executive of Waikato Regional Council. He currently works for Fonterra.
Mayor Julie Hardaker says there was extremely high quality field of 36 applicants.
She says says Mr Harris has a strong record in leading complex organisations.
