A yacht abandoned by its crew between North Cape and Norfolk Island will be left to float until the weather clears up.
Two men and a woman have spent Tuesday night in Whangarei after being rescued from the 13-metre craft, which had a damaged sail.
Northland Emergency Services chief pilot Pete Turnbull says the yacht was being rolled around by big swells at the time of the rescue, about 280km north-west of North Cape.
He says it will be checked when the weather improves.
Mr Turnbull says the three people on board are in good shape.
