Two cars hit by trains in South Island

Three people remain in hospital after two separate collisions between trains and cars in the South Island overnight.

In Christchurch, a car was hit by a train at the intersection of Harewood and Papanui roads.

Two of the car's occupants are still being treated in the emergency department of Christchurch Hospital, while a third has been discharged.

In Blenheim, five people were taken to Wairau Hospital after a car was hit by a train on Dillons Point Road.

Two children, a man and a woman have been treated and discharged, while one woman is still in hospital in a stable condition.
