Fresh thinking expected from Te Mangai Paho

Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples is expecting some fresh thinking from his new appointees to the Maori broadcasting funding agency.

An academic and former bureaucrat, Piri Sciascia from Ngati Kahungunu, becomes the chair of Te Mangai Paho, replacing former Maori Women's Welfare League president Jacqui Te Kani.

Mr Sciascia will be joined by educationalist Toni Waho, former broadcasters Hinemoa Elder and Gabrielle Huria, and business consultant Taria Tahana, with Gina Rangi the only carry-over from the previous board.

Dr Sharples told Waatea News the decisions of Maurice Gray and Parekawhia McLean to decline reappointment paved the way for a comprehensive change.
