The Automobile Association says motorists can take steps to reduce their petrol consumption as prices at the pump continue to rise.
In the main centres, petrol prices have been hovering at just under $2 a litre, a level not seen since 2008.
This week they rose by 2c a litre, bringing the price of 91 octane to a fraction under $1.98 a litre, while diesel went up by 1c a litre to nearly $1.35.
The AA's Simon Lamborne says motorists can use up to 30% less fuel by driving in a fuel-efficient way.
He says ways of doing this include making sure tyres are properly inflated, removing a roof-rack when it's not required, and turning off the air-conditioning.
