Two-hour power cut hits New Plymouth

9:00 am on 25 December 2010

A fault on the national grid cut power to about 19,000 properties in New Plymouth on Christmas morning - but supply has now been restored.

The network operations manager for Powerco, Phil Marsh, says power was interrupted at about 5.40am by a fault at the point where the grid feeds electricity to the east of the city.

Areas affected included the central city, Bell Block, Egmont Village, Lepperton and the surrounding areas.

Mr Marsh says all power was restored by 8am, and the fault is under investigation.
