Police have issued the name of a kite surfer killed near Nelson on Christmas Eve.
He was Ruben Laas, 35, a German national, who had lived in New Zealand at Tahunanui for several years.
Mr Lass hit trees after a gust of wind lifted him high above the ground at about 4pm on Friday at Wakapuaka, north of the city.
He hit trees and came to rest some distance away in farmland.
