A man will appear in the Napier District Court on Monday after another man was stabbed on Sunday in the suburb of Maraenui.
Police say the man, 17, is charged with assault and possession of an offensive weapon. Further charges are likely.
The wounded man is in a serious but stable condition in Hawke's Bay hospital.
