Four people are in a serious condition in hospital in Hastings following a car crash in central Hawke's Bay on Monday.
The crash, involving three cars and a truck-and-trailer unit, happened on State Highway 2 north of Otane. Twelve people were hospitalised, four of whom were discharged on Tuesday.
A spokesperson at Hawke's Bay Hospital says one person who was in a critical condition is now serious, with three others also in a serious condition. Four others are in a stable condition.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
