At least 20 trampers are stuck on the Heaphy Track near Golden Bay after heavy rains on Tuesday.
The Department of Conservation says the road exit of the track is still underwater. Seventeen trampers are waiting there, unable to leave at the moment.
DoC says other trampers are in huts along the track. The department is yet to get a full picture of conditions.
One of those at Browns Hut, Moira Sindin, says spirits are high after a wet and muddy day's walk. She said they are warm and dry.
