11:25 am on 31 December 2010

A man has had part of his ear cut off in a drunken brawl in Hastings.

Police were called to a property in Manuka Street about 1.10am to deal with a fight involving up to 10 people.

Officers arrived to find a man missing a large part of his ear, which was located at the rear of the property and reattached at Hastings Hospital.

Senior Sergeant Luke Shadbolt says those involved were very drunk and have refused to co-operate with police.

In a separate incident, officers were called to a property in the Flaxmere area after reports that a Mongrel Mob member was assaulting and throwing bottles at a woman on the street.

Two other gang members tried to prevent the man's arrest.

Three men have appeared in Hastings District Court on Friday.
