Drug Foundation to trial NZ-first fundraising scheme

10:25 am on 1 January 2011

The Drug Foundation is pioneering a novel way to raise funds for youth alcohol and drug treatment services including Odyssey House in Auckland.

During February, people will be challenged to go the entire month without alcohol as part of the foundation's Feb-Fast.

The money is raised through the registration fees paid by the Feb-Fast participants and through people sponsoring them.

Campaign co-ordinator Catherine Milburn says after over-indulging during the festive season, people have the opportunity to do something healthy for the year ahead.

Ms Milburn says 10,000 Australians have been Feb-fasting for four years and they report losing weight, exercising more, saving money and - after the fast - tending to drink less.
