Close eye being kept on Lake Wakatipu this week

Queenstown residents and retailers along the foreshore of Lake Wakatipu will be keeping a close eye on the lake level this week - more heavy rain is forecast.

Queenstown-Lakes District Council staff are on alert because the lake is already high. Council spokesperson Meaghan Miller says it may spill over into low-lying areas on the foreshore, and at Kingston and Glenorchy.

Ms Miller says business owners have been advised to keep a close eye on the lake, which may peak on Tuesday or Wednesday.

She says Lake Wanaka is also at a high level.
