More problem-drinking calls attributed to campaign

The Alcohol Advisory Council (ALAC) says nearly 30% more people have phoned about problem drinking since the council's "Ease up on the drink" television campaign began in April.

ALAC says callers are evenly divided between people worried about their own drinking and those worried about a family member or friend.

The council's chief executive, Gerard Vaughan, believes the tone of the advertisements has connected well with people. He thinks it accounts for a 50% increase in the number of women and Maori men calling about their drinking.
