Tracks around Queenstown hit by wet weather

6:24 am on 7 January 2011

Some walking tracks have been closed by heavy rain and high lake levels in the Queenstown region.

The Wanaka Glendhu Bay track, the Kelvin Peninsula Walkway, and the Wanaka Outlet Track are affected by washouts in some places.

Queenstown Lakes District Council parks manager Gordon Bailey says there has been an attempt to signpost the washouts, but signs do not always stay in place.

He says people need to be cautious on other tracks around the district until the weather changes and the ground has time to dry out.

Repairs to the damaged tracks will be made in a few weeks' time.
