A girl has died after accidentally cycling down steps near Porirua.
The 10-year-old from Hamilton was visiting family in Papakowhai and was cycling to the dairy with an aunt and a cousin on Thursday afternoon.
Police say she did not know the area and that the path they were on led to steps.
The girl was wearing a helmet but fell, and landed 12 to 15 steps down.
Ambulance staff were unable to resuscitate her.
