Ross Taylor fetches $US1 million in IPL auction

New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor was taken up by the Rajasthan Royals for $US1 million on the opening day of the two-day Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in Bangalore.

Taylor was one of 15 players who fetched $US1 million or more in the auction for the Twenty20 competition which starts in April.

Indian players fetched the highest prices on Saturday, with Gautam Gambhir going to the Kolkata Knight Riders for a record $US2.4 million.

The top seven earners on the opening day were all Indian players. Yusuf Pathan, Robin Uthappa and Rohit Sharma earned more than $US2 million, while Irfan Pathan, Yuvraj Singh and Saurabh Tiwary went for more than $US1 million.

Others in the $1 million club were Sri Lankans Mahela Jayawardene and Muttiah Muralitharan, South Africans AB de Villiers, Jacques Kallis and Dale Steyn, and Australians Cameron White and David Hussey.

New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore and players Brendon and Nathan McCullum and James Franklin were also sold, while Jesse Ryder was unsold after the first day.
