12:01 pm on 15 January 2011

Two investigations are underway into a dog attack at a Lower Hutt park which left a two-and-a-half year old boy with bites to his face.

Lower Hutt police say the toddler was bitten by a dog at Avalon Park and they have been able to identify the car in which the animal, its owner and other people left the park.

Hutt City Council spokesman Scott Dennison says a council investigation is also underway and is following up on information provided by members of the public.

Mr Dennison could not yet say if the council will lay charges against the owner.
