Fire crews and helicopters are battling a large scrub fire on the South Wairarapa coast.
Crews were called to the blaze at Cape Palliser, near the settlement of Ngawi, about 9am on Saturday.
Central fire communications shift manager Mike Wanoa says two helicopters were being used to drop water on the flames.
Five fire trucks were tackling the blaze and several rural fire crews were also at the scene.
The Fire Service said high wind gusts initially spread the fire but it was being brought under control.
