Wellington DHB appoints new chief executive

The financially-troubled Capital and Coast District Health Board in Wellington has named its new chief executive.

Mary Bonner will fill a job that has been vacant since September last year when Ken Whelan quit, saying he could not cut a $47.5 million deficit further without undermining patient care.

Ms Bonner has most recently been the chief executive at Townsville Health District in Queensland.

A New Zealander by birth, she has worked at a number of district health boards, most recently until 2006 as the general manager of health services in Waikato.
