OE safe from UK immigration changes

The British High Commissioner says changes to that country's immigration laws will not affect young New Zealanders wanting to travel and work in Britain on their OE.

British Foreign Secretary William Hague and the UK Defence Secretary Liam Fox arrive in Auckland on Thursday for two days of talks with their New Zealand counterparts.

The agenda includes discussions about Afghanistan, airport departure tax and immigration.

British High Commissioner Vicki Treadell says immigration changes are unlikely to adversely affect the levels of New Zealand visitors to the UK.

She says that, for example, the changes do not affect people applying for the UK ancestry visa.
