Fourth pedestrian hit on new bus route in capital

6:45 pm on 18 January 2011

Another pedestrian has been hit while using a new bus thoroughfare in central Wellington.

It is the fourth accident on Manners Street, which began operating as a two-lane bus route in November last year.

The Wellington City Council removed the long-established pedestrian Manners Mall and redirected traffic on several adjacent streets in a bid to make public transport more efficient.

A spokesperson for the council says the woman was crossing the street between two stationary buses late on Tuesday afternoon when she was clipped by a bus coming in the other direction.

It is understood the woman was not badly injured, but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The incident caused some disruption in central Wellington, but bus services are now back to normal.
