A Waikanae woman is angry that her daughter was in pain for more than six hours while waiting for surgery at Wellington hospital at the weekend.
Selena Littlefair's daughter, Ruby, aged six, who broke her arm in four places, was given a nasal spray painkiller on arrival at 3pm on Saturday at the emergency department, but spat it out.
Mrs Littlefair says her daughter was left to writhe in pain until 9.30pm, when she was anesthetised before surgery, because nurses could not administer anything stronger than panadol.
She says she can't understand why a doctor was not paged in order to write a prescription for her daughter.
