Large shark sighted off Coromandel Peninsula

A large Great White shark has been spotted by anglers on the Coromandel Peninsula.

The men, Craig Hill and his son Kane Hill were about two kilometres off the coast of Mercury Bay on Monday when they saw the shark.

It is estimated to be about 4.5 metres in length.

Mr Hill says the Great White was not aggressive and quite spectacular to witness in the wild.

It is thought the Great White shark could be the one named as Miranda by Department of Conservation scientists, who have been calling for sightings of the animal.
