A sawn-off shotgun was fired into the floor during a struggle between a dairy owner in Hamilton and a robber on Thursday night.
Police say the dairy owner tried to wrestle the gun from the robber and it was nearly a tragedy.
The incident happened at a dairy in the suburb of Claudelands shortly before 9pm.
Two robbers were involved. They took cigarettes before they fled.
