A former Defence Force payroll administrator has been sentenced to four months home detention after admitting defrauding the service of $31,110.74.

Stephen Goodwin, 29, was sentenced in the Wellington District Court on Friday on 19 charges of using a document and one of computer crime.

Between August 2006 - April 2010, Goodwin added work hours to the records of service personnel and diverted the extra pay to his own account.

His lawyer said Goodwin had entered early guilty pleas and was eager to begin paying reparation.

As well as the sentence of home detention, Judge Bruce Davidson ordered Goodwin to repay the full amount stolen.
