Dunedin dairy held up by man wanting party pills

2:30 pm on 24 January 2011

Police in Dunedin say a man looking for synthetic party pills has held up a suburban dairy with a shotgun.

Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken says the incident occurred at a shop in the suburb of Halfway Bush on Sunday evening.

Mr Aitken says while no shots were fired, the potential for injury was huge.

The man left the shop with some pills and drove away in a blue or green Subaru, he says.

Over the weekend, a Hamilton liquor store owner suffered a gunshot wound and received a fractured skull during an armed robbery, the second armed holdup of a shop in the city within two days.
