The fate of three art deco houses threatened with demolition in the Auckland suburb of St Heliers will not be known until Thursday.
The 1930s Mission-style buildings on Turua Street are due to be knocked down to make way for a business retail centre, but opponents say it will ruin the character of the village.
Campaign group Save Our St Heliers is seeking a continued injunction to stop their removal, after a judge granted an interim court order last week.
Lawyers for the group and developer, the Ancona Group, made their arguments at the Environment Court in Auckland on Wednesday.
Judge Laurie Newhook said he did not want to rush his decision, given the public interest in the case.
He extended the interim injunction for another 24 hours and will deliver his final decision on Thursday afternoon.
