Police investigating a stabbing in Wellington are appealing for a witness who helped the victim to come forward.
A 46-year-old man was knifed in the chest and back on Tuesday afternoon in the suburb of Kilbirnie.
A man, aged 64, has appeared in court charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Detective Sergeant Mike Priston says police would like to talk to the witness who intervened to prevent any further attack.
The man is described as a tall Maori or Pacific Island man, of solid build. He was wearing shorts, work boots and a light-coloured hooded sweatshirt.
