Maori Television chief executive Jim Mather is welcoming the appointment of Maori TV director Wayne Walden to the board of Television New Zealand.
Mr Walden from Ngati Kahu was the chairman of Maori Television from 2003 to 2007 and is currently a director, but will resign from that position before joining the TVNZ board in May.
Mr Mather says he has long argued for closer co-operation between Maori broadcasters.
"He will be able to identify areas where the two can possibly be more closely aligned," he told Waatea News.
