Latest migration figures from the Department of Labour show more students from India are studying in New Zealand.
They comprise the largest group of people applying for graduate or post-study work visas.
Immigration New Zealand says Chinese still make up the biggest proportion of international students, at 20%.
The agency says India and China are both countries where New Zealand actively seeks immigrants.
