The Ministry of Social Development says the son of a woman burnt alive in Waikato, is now being cared for by Child Youth & Family.
Ranjeeta Sharma, 28, was found burning beside a rural road near Huntly on Thursday last week.
Her husband took their son, aged four, to Fiji the next morning.
New Zealand police officers travelled there to interview him and both accompanied the officers back to Auckland on Friday.
The boy is now with a foster family in Waikato. The ministry says there is no family immediately available in this country to look after him.
